Dear Reader,
I have my son sick at home so I’m keeping todays newsletter fairly short.
After writing last weeks newsletter it stuck with me that I did not like the fact that I had not documented a bit of my family life this year.
I think this was due to me falling into the pattern of thinking that nothing much is happening… But once I started to pay attention again I quickly found situations I could draw on a near daily basis and when in the practice of drawing dailies my brain my brain goes “ This is something to draw!” while or after it happens.
I could have just sat on the train staring at my phone, but I always have my sketchbook with me and I got down most of the sketch on the train ride there and finished it up on the way back.
So again it comes down to attention.
Priming your brain to take note and not file everything away as same old same old, I don’t need to remember this.
Starting by recapping the day when sitting down to draw often also works. It doesn’t always have to be funny or special, just something that stood out a bit .
This is always a good practice to draw unfamiliar poses or stances, to try to capture a mood and to maybe experiment with a style.
I’m not saying this is super easy I sometimes get stuck with a pose or a perspective, but reality is a good source of inspiration. You can remember a situation and maybe reenact a pose in front of a mirror or ask someone to take a reference pic.
But I’d try to remember the situation and then draw it as well as possible. It’s original since it comes from your life and carries it’s authenticity.
