I regularly keep old sketch books around for that reason. Sometimes I just want to ink or practice coloring so I go back to my old sketch books. My feeling has never been that sketch books have to be chronological, rather I view the sketch book itself as a piece of art in it's own right that i can complete at any time. I like "completing" pieces in various sketch books when I feel I have the skill set to do so.
It is very rare that I dare add to an old sketch, specially if it's on a sketchbook. A loose sheet of paper? no problem mostly. But sketchbooks have this "moment in time" thing that I don't dare mess with (?). I even do this with old psd files, that I copy before doing anything so that I can keep the "2016 version of it". Of course scanning or taking a picture of the sketch to do something: no problem.
Anyway, THAT'S WHAT I DO.
But I remember someone saying that when wanting to learn how to ink better, they just picked up old sketchbooks and started INKING EVERYTHING. And yes, they ruined the first couple two, but after a while it started getting better. I don't know. Maybe if I first scanned everything I could dare mess with the sacred ancient tomes of old drawings. Who knows.
I honestly feel weird going to my old sketchbooks to change anything! I feel the “chronicle” of order and time is important and what was done then should be left as is😆
I do however LOVE to look back and see improvements and/or take reference!
I hope your move goes suuuper smoothly🥹
I know moving is always hard but I’m sure after the move you will have plenty of magical moments that will make it worth it✨

This is so good! I must try that with older ones too! Love that you are so free about it!
I think the color addition turned out simply beautiful!! I remember seeing it before, and it had magic then too, but even more now, I think.
Aww I'm glad! Thank you so much!

I totally relate. Love the idea of inking through an old sketchbook to learn how to ink! Dunno if I would dare either...
